Data license

The Creative Commons BY-NC-ND license

All content of the websites www.opencaching.it, www.opencachingspain.es and www.opencaching.de - hereafter "Opencaching websites" - which has been contributed by users is licensed under the terms of "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Germany".

The license is available at:

What does the license mean?

You may copy and redistribute the user content as long as you follow the license terms:

Attribution ("BY")

You must give appropriate credit. The author has to be named in the form given below:

© $USERNAME, Opencaching.de, CC-BY-NC-ND, as of $DATE

The date refers to the day when the data was downloaded from the Opencaching website, and it may be omitted for photos and log entries.

NonCommercial ("NC")

The content must not be used for any commercial purposes. It is a fundamental principle of Opencaching, not to allow that others earn money out of your material or work.

NoDerivatives ("ND")

You must not alter, transform, or build upon the user content. It is easy to understand, that a cache listing with all images, attributes and other information must not be changed by others then the owner of the cache. The same counts to logs by cachers. Any manipulated could cause problems to the owner or others and is now allowed.

Commencement of the data license

The data license took effect on February 17th, 2013 on all new content of the Opencaching websites. All users have to agree to the data license during their registration, before submitting cache listings, cache descriptions, logs and when uploading images.

All registered users were informed about the new data license and asked to agree or disagree to apply the data license on their existing content. As a result, about 97% of the website's content was adapted/converted to the new data license effecive from April 7th, 2013. About 3% of the content was deleted due to disagreement or missing feedback. Since April 7th, 2013 all Opencaching website's content is under CC NC-BY-ND 3.0.

Is the data license exclusive?

No, the data license is not exclusiv. You may apply additional licenses to your content on the Opencaching websites as long as you do not restrict the terms of CC NC-BY-ND 3.0. You may apply other licenses to your content outside of the Opencaching websites. You can change or publish your content and even sell it.

Are there other terms to respect?

Yes, additionally the [of service] do always apply to the Opencaching websites. These terms
